Updated October 2026. Attraction status and fountain show times checked against Emaar announcements and 2025 to 2026 Gulf News reporting.
Downtown Dubai packs the city’s best-known landmarks into a walkable district around the Burj Khalifa lake. The top Downtown Dubai attractions are close together, so you can see most of them in one afternoon and evening. Here is what to visit in 2026, including the Dubai Fountain after its 2025 upgrade.
1. Burj Khalifa: At the Top
At around 828 metres, Burj Khalifa is the world’s tallest building. Its observation decks are the main draw: At the Top on levels 124 and 125, and At the Top Sky on level 148, which includes a guided route and lounge access. The entrance is on the lower ground floor of Dubai Mall.
Sunset slots sell out first and cost more, so book in advance on the official At the Top website. On hazy days the view is softer, so check the weather before you choose a time.
2. The Dubai Fountain
The Dubai Fountain, on the Burj Khalifa lake, is the world’s largest choreographed fountain system. It closed in April 2025 for a five-month upgrade and reopened on 1 October 2025 with renewed equipment and new shows.
Show times announced at the reopening:
- Afternoon: 1pm and 1:30pm daily (2pm and 2:30pm on Fridays)
- Evening: every 30 minutes from 6pm to 11pm
Watching from the promenade is free. For a closer view, you can book the Dubai Fountain Boardwalk or a short abra-style lake ride. Shows are occasionally paused for official occasions, so check Emaar’s channels if you are planning around a specific show.
3. Dubai Mall
Dubai Mall is one of the largest shopping centres in the world, and it is also an attraction in its own right. Inside you will find:
- Dubai Aquarium and Underwater Zoo: the giant tank is visible free from the mall, and a ticket gets you into the tunnel and the zoo upstairs.
- Dubai Ice Rink for public skating sessions.
- The Waterfall, a multi-storey sculpture of divers, and the Souk area for gold and traditional goods.
- A large cinema, family entertainment zones and hundreds of restaurants, many with fountain views.
The mall connects to Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall Metro station by a long air-conditioned walkway.
4. Dubai Opera
Shaped like a traditional dhow, Dubai Opera hosts opera, ballet, musicals, concerts and comedy through the year. The main season runs through the cooler months. Check the official programme and book early for popular shows. Even without a ticket, the Opera District around it is a good place for a walk and a meal.
5. Souk Al Bahar and the Burj Lake promenade
Across a footbridge from Dubai Mall, Souk Al Bahar is an Arabian-style mall with restaurants and terraces overlooking the fountain. Walking the promenade around Burj Lake at night, between the mall, the souk and the Address hotels, is one of the most pleasant free things to do in Downtown.
6. Burj Park and Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard
Burj Park, on the lake beside Burj Khalifa, is a green space used for events and the New Year’s Eve celebrations. The 3.5 km Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard loops around Downtown with cafes, shops and public art, and is popular with joggers early in the morning.
How do I get to Downtown Dubai?
- Metro: Burj Khalifa/Dubai Mall station on the Red Line, linked to the mall by a covered walkway.
- Car: Dubai Mall has large car parks, but they get very busy on weekend evenings and during events.
- Taxi or ride-hailing: drop-off points are at the mall entrances and the Opera District.
Tips for visiting Downtown Dubai

- Weekday evenings are calmer than Friday to Sunday.
- Arrive early on public holidays and New Year’s Eve, when roads and the Metro station can close for crowd control.
