Upcoming Event – World Green Economy Summit In Dubai To Focus On Sustainable Solutions
The 8th World Green Economy Summit will take place at the Dubai World Trade Centre on 28-29 September 2022. The event is being organized by DEWA (Dubai Electricity and Water Authority) and WEGO (World Green Economy Organisation) alongside DSS (Dubai Solar Show) and WETEX (Water, Energy, Technology, & Environment Exhibition).
Climate change is a huge problem around the world, which is why world leaders convene this internationally recognized conference to formulate new strategies and goals. Global efforts have been galvanized by the WGES to encourage the transition to a green economy in UAE, promote investments in sustainability, and address critical topics such as climate change and global warming since 2014.
WGES – What Is It?
The WGES seeks to transform climate work into opportunities for economic diversity and development in accordance with the vision and directives of the President and Vice President, respectively, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
The WGES mainly attracts VIPs, including presidents and government leaders, as well as media professionals, academics, officials, government representatives, and experts from around the world.
WGES – Main Focus
Dubai’s green development plan incorporates renewable energy, energy efficiency, and conservation projects within the UAE’s vision of green development. WGES provides a vital platform for supporting global efforts for sustainable development, as Al Tayer, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Supreme Council of Energy and MD & CEO of DEWA, says particularly when it comes to implementation and financing.
In order to achieve a balance between economic growth and environmental sustainability, WGES supports the UAE and global efforts to adopt innovative green solutions. In addition to promoting UAE’s climate action efforts and sustainability commitments, WGES also focuses on developing sustainable solutions to environmental challenges, energy, and climate problems. In 2023, the UAE will host COP28 at Expo City Dubai, and the two-day event will serve as preparation for that.
The UAE adopts green energy, encourages sustainable development, and strives to strike a balance between growth and resource use. By the middle of the century, Dubai plans to provide 100 percent of its total power capacity from clean energy sources through the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050. 2050 is the target date for reaching net-zero emissions for the UAE.
WGES 2022 and COP38– An Overview
With the UAE preparing to host COP28, the World Green Economy Summit 2022 is even more vital. Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, claims the UAE plays an important role in supporting global efforts in clean and renewable energy through its strategies and investments.
The UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, echoes Dr. Sultan Al Jaber’s view that WGES is particularly important in preparation for hosting COP28. She says the UAE has led the world in climate and environmental action for three decades. They are eager to take significant steps in the climate change action as they prepare to host COP28 in 2023, she further adds.
The Takeaway:
Across the globe, nations are moving toward more sustainable travel, agriculture, power generation, and construction by reducing their reliance on fossil fuels and reducing their carbon footprint. As part of its efforts to implement a sustainable future, Dubai certainly leads the way with massive investments in renewable energy, water, and electricity initiatives.
