Dubai Ranks Highest In International Tourists Spending 2022

Recent reports have revealed that Dubai is the city with the highest tourist spending this year, according to the Gulf Tourism Hub. World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) reports that Dubai garnered $29.4 million in collections, surpassing Doha and London.

Following the pandemic, 2022 has been the best year for international tourists spending in most cities worldwide. With the reduction of cases and the easing of restrictions, international tourism had a resurgence. 82 cities around the world found their tourism sectors have recovered well after the pandemic, with up to 8% more jobs expected in 2023 than in 2020, according to a WTTC report in Riyadh.

The Future Of Direct Travel And Tourism GDP

It is projected that 10 out of 82 cities analyzed this year will contribute more to their economies through direct travel and tourism than they did pre-pandemic. It is forecast that Doha’s contribution to the city’s GDP from the travel and tourism sector will increase by 21 percent from 2019.

A significant 14 percent increase is expected to be recorded in Warsaw in Europe, while a 10 percent increase is expected in Orlando in the US. A new report forecasts that Paris will have the largest direct travel and tourism contribution to GDP this year, followed by Beijing at $33 billion and Orlando at $31 billion.

According to WTTC, 126 million jobs will be generated worldwide over the next decade, with travel and tourism becoming key drivers of economic growth. During this year and next, Hong Kong, Bangkok, and Jakarta are expected to experience the strongest annual growth in direct travel and tourism GDP.

Among the top 10 busiest air routes this year, Dubai appeared in five places, according to OAG data. As the top city destination in the Middle East and Africa, Dubai remains the same as last year, according to Euromonitor. The Top 100 City Destinations Index featured 14 Middle East and African destinations in 2022, compared to 16 in 2021.

The post-pandemic revival of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism segment and Expo 2020 Dubai contributed to Dubai’s stellar 2022.
